Rings

These past couple weeks when I have blogged you were probably wondering what these lantern rings I have been talking about are?! Well today I got the last two of my whole collection and it really made my day. Now I am going to show you the rings and the oaths to go along with them.

The first ring that I am going to show you is the one that started it all the Green ring of Will power. The Green Lantern:

In Brightest Day, In Blackest Night.
No evil shall escape my sight.
Let all those that worship evil's might
Beware my Power Green Lantern's Light!

The Green Lanterns are based in the center of the color spectrum and channel the power of will power. Hal Jordan is the Leader of the Green Lanterns.

The next ring we will be seeing is the Sinestro Corps ring or the ring of Yellow:

In Blackest Day, in Brightest Night.
Beware your fears made into light.
Let those that try and stop what's right
Burn like my power, Sinestro's Might!

When Sinesto's corps members also recite this oath they replace my with his in regards to Sinestro. This color is the color of fear. Sinestro is the Leader of the Yellow Lanterns.

The Star Sapphire ring is the next ring that made its way into the comics.

For hearts long lost and full of fright.
For those alone in the blackest night.
Accept our ring and join our fight.
Love conquers all with Violet light!

The violet ring is the ring of love and one of the harder rings to control because it is on the very edge of the color spectrum. Carol Faris is the Leader of the Star Sapphires.




Red then made its way into the Green Lantern Comics with Final Crisis: Rage of the Red Lanterns, it really had nothing to do with the Final Crisis Story line but it did start kicking off the War of Light which lead to the Blackest Night story line:

With Blood and Rage of Crimson Red,
Ripped from a corpse so freshly dead.
Together with our hellish hate,
We'll burn you all--that is your fate!

Just by reading that oath there you can probably tell that Red is the color that represents rage or hatred. This one is also on the far side of the spectrum. Atrocitus is the leader of the Red Lanterns.

Also showing up in the Final Crisis: Rage of the Red Lanterns Story was the Blue Ring. This ring only showed up at the end of the story making you wonder what the fuck was going on.

With strong hearts full, our souls ignite.
When all seems lost in the war of light,
Look to the stars--for Hope Burns Bright!

The Blue Lanterns are the most powerful of the Lantern rings but also the weakest as they need a Green ring to make them work completely. The Blue ring taps the emotion of Hope. Saint Walker is the Leader of the Blue Lanterns.

We were next introduced to the Orange ring and this ring we have actually never heard an oath for other than:

MINE!

This ring is the ring of Avarice or Greed. The Leader of this Corps is Larfleeze and all his corps members are constructs of his power.



After Orange we get to hear the first Black Lantern Oath. This one is sorta creepy in that it's a dead man that we first 'hear' this from:

The Blackest Night Falls From the Skies
As Darkness Grows All Light Dies
We crave your hearts and your demise
By my black hand--the dead shall rise.

Black Hand is the Entity of the Black Lanterns and is pretty damn creepy if you ask me. Black is Death.


The last ring we get introduced to in the Blackest Night story line is the Indigo Ring. We have not gotten an English translation to the Indigo oath as of yet as it is said in clicks and pops but here you go:

Tor lorek san, bor nakka mur.
Natromo faan tornek wot ur.
Ter Lantern ker lo Abin Sur.
Taan lek lek nok--formorrow Sur!

Fuck if I know what it means but I sure as hell want to know and here soon because Abin Sur is mentioned in it and he is the one that gave Hal his Ring. Indigo lanterns harness the power of Compassion and are led by Indigo-1, all the indigo corps members forwent their names and chose instead Indigo-something or other.

After Thanksgiving I am going to do 8 days of Lantern shirts and 8 days of rings as soon as those days are up I will post pictures.

Stuff

This week I have looked around at my stuff and I realize that I am living through crap. Yeah it may be fun crap to me but its still crap. What do I really have to say is my 'legacy'? Toys, comics? Wow that says a lot about me. Don't get me wrong one bit I love my stuff but what does it say about me?

That little bit of musing aside this week I found out some relatively goodish news about a great friend of mine. I made him a promise I would not say anything but if he reads this he knows who he is. I wish you the best in what ever endeavor life brings you and have enjoyed getting to know you and looking forward to knowing you even more as the years go on.

This week I got two more of my rings for my full lantern collection. I got the Blue ring of hope and the Violet ring of love. When I get all 8 I will do 8 days of lantern shirts with the rings. I know geeky but you know what its me and its what I like.

I forgot to mention that this last Sunday was the Portland Comic Show. I spent about 2 hours there looking for treasures and I found some good stuff. I found the Hawkeye Vision Minimate and the Hawkeye Vision variant for 2 dollars a piece. I was pretty damn excited to find those. I also found a trade paperback that I had been looking for and one more part to the Spider-Carnage storyline that I have spent years looking for.

Yup like I said I have crap and it makes me who I am.

Another thing I have realized is that I think I am ready once again to try that strange thing called a relationship. There are a few people that I am interested in but none of them seem to be ready or not interested in me. One I know from talking to others is not looking for anything but friends, fine lets wait that one out. Two of my good friends know who that is. Two work a totally different shift and makes it hard to get to know them when I am asleep when they work, yeah kinda hard. Plus I think one of them has started seeing someone else...oh well thats life isn't it? I think I am just going to let something find me. I have looked and each time it fails me. This time its for something else to come to me. I am forever patient, when it comes to this, and hopeful that something positive will happen soon.

Well to those three or four that actually read my blog thanks for looking and look for next time when I talk about....shit your guess is a good as mine.

Nothing fucking doing.

Ok so I haven't really blogged in a couple of days, well because not much has really happened.

Friday: of last week I hung out with my best friend Tyler and we played video games, sorted comics and basically did the same shit we do every time we hang out together. Really nothing big with that day other than seeing Tyler after not seeing him for almost 5 months. Oh yeah one of the Lantern Corps Rings came in also...the Yellow ring of Fear... Made me fucking happy to have that...

Saturday: Not a damn thing was done and I liked it that way. I played video games and well actually thats about all I did. Shocking huh?

Sunday: I planned something to get my friends to mingle on this upcoming Friday but I don't know how well it will pan out. We'll see!

Monday: Went to school and decided to skip Geology class because there is really no reason for it...no lab this week cause of the Holiday.

Tuesday: Nothing doing but school and coming home.

Today Wednesday: I went to the Comic Shop and got a few books and two more Lantern rings to bring my collection up to 4 of 8 so far. Today's books were Toyfare 149, X-Force 21, Dark X-Men 1(the return of Nate Grey, OH FUCK YEAH), Green Lantern 47, Booster Gold 25 and 26, and Green Lantern Corps 42. The rings I got this week are Indigo and Orange, Compassion and Greed. Two more rings in one week and another week two more rings then I will have all 8.

That's pretty much everything I have or haven't done in these past few days. Kinda sad huh? Oh well its life it happens.

Thought inducing.

Ok so farting around on the internet today I came across something that actually made me almost tear up. I seriously don't know what up with my psychology lately, first I do that really emotional blog and I spill my heart out to all my friends nearest and dearest to me. Then almost every day since I have woken up in a really happy go lucky mood where most anything does not bother me, maybe I am finally growing into my emotions and becoming something better that I was when I was younger. I do have to admit though this has been a really rough year for me and if it weren't for my friends who are my family and also my family I would probably have snapped and done something drastic. I am not gonna bore you with the details of what made this year such a shit year for me but I will say to all my friends I love you and I will never leave your side and never stop supporting you through your endeavors no matter what they be. And I know you will do the same for me.

My corps

Many of you don't know that lately within in the Green Lantern comics that there have been more different corps coming out each representing a different color of the emotional spectrum. Red, blue, yellow, green, orange, violet, indigo, and black. Each represent an emotion. Red is Rage, Blue is Hope, Yellow is Fear, Green is Will Power, Orange is Greed, Violet is Love, Indigo is Compassion and Black is Death.

What corps do I fit the most in? Well there are three that I can see in my mind that I fit into well but the one that trumps them all is Blue of Hope. Blue Lanterns are serene and calm. They do not over react to anything that happens and know what they are getting into before they leap into the fray.

Why do I feel that the Blue Lanterns are the Corps that I fit into? I am eternally hopeful that my friends are happy that my family is in good health and that something better is around the corner.

Yeah I know not the most interesting blog this week but after the first gushing one and the one that was longer than Dirk Digglers wang I decided to go shorter for a change. If you comment and ask what corps I think you belong in I will tell you and what I know about them if I know you well enough.

Heroes and powers

Often when I meet someone new and I tell them that I am a comic geek they always ask me the most obvious two questions Who's your favorite superhero and if you had one superpower what would it be. And for me a huge comic geek that's sort of a hard question to answer.

Here is my answer for the first question Who is my favorite superhero? Well that one is a two person tie for my favorite. I cannot just have one. Both my favorites are from two different comic companies. The first is Deadpool, yes the Merc with a Mouth that never shuts the hell up. What can I say about someone who is a smartass when he gets the crap beat out of him? Not much other than I need to find a belt buckle and hoodie with him on it.

The thing about Deadpool that most don't know is that when he was created, he was not the Merc with a Mouth. He was just some obscure character that Rob Liefield designed to take on X-Force. The first designs of Deadpool or Wade Wilson looked a lot like DC Comics Dea thstroke the Terminater or Slade Wilson. Slade was a master tactician using 80% of his brain instead of the normal 10% that we non comic based life forms do. When fans first saw Deadpool they immediately thought that he was a Deathstroke rip off, and how could they not he had the same weapons and fought the same way as Deathstroke even had a name very similiar to him. But after a short while it was see that good old Deadpool was much farther from Deathstroke than you could imagine.

Wade is scarred for life from a regenerating healing factor that causes his body to become all scarred and constantly in a state of flux. Wade will never be pretty no matter what he does he was givin this healing factor to help him fight the cancer that was killing him the healing factor was a sample of Wolverine and Sabertooths modified to make sure Wade wasn't going to die.

Deadpool is mentally unstable due to the healing factor and just because he is Wade Wilson. A lot of the time in the comics you can see him haveing a conversation with himself as he is having conversations with other people. Wade is one of two people that breaks the 4th and talks to us the readers. The other is She-Hulk but I am not that big of a fan of hers.

So this is why Deadpool is one of my favorite comic characters: he is a smartass, he has more weapons on him than a small nation, he takes more damage than Wolverine and keeps going and he still thinks he is beautiful when he is all scarred.

My next hero if you didn't know is Green Lantern...and look my text is Green, just for him. Now this isn't the classic Alan Scott Green Lantern whos powers are based on magic, no this is Hal Jordan Green Lantern of sector 2814. Now why do I like Hal? Why wouldn't I? He is a rebel and does things how he sees them needing to be done. He doesn't take orders very well and never makes excuses. Hal is also a womanizer and probably the biggest man whore of the DC universe. As Ollie williams said to Hal once 'is this about you Huntress one other and the bottle of champainge?' Hal responds ' You heard about that?' Ollie says 'All I have to say is Well played.' That is just a little bit of Hal.

Hal was for the longest time a renegade he killed many Green Lanterns in an effort to bring back Coast City that was destroyed by Mongul and Cyborg-Superman. When the Guaridans of the Universe told Hal that he cannot bring everyone that died in Coast City back Hal went nuts and killed the first Guardian and absorbed his powers into himself. Little did we know that Hal at this time was being infected by Parallax, the living entity of fear. After Hal killed the Guardian he went on to Oa the Guardians planed where the Green Lantern Power battery was. The Guradians sent many Lanterns to stop Hal from doing what he thought was right and Hal in his anger killed them all, they became the Lost Lanterns. When Hal reached Oa the Guardians brought the one other renegade Lantern that was inprisioned in the Power Battery, Sinestro. He and Hal fought to the death with no rings, Hal won by snapping Sinestro's neck and then walking into the power battery and taking all its powers. Hal became Parallax, he thought it was the powers of all the green energy in the universe and so did we until yearrs later did we learn that it was actually the fear entity posessing Hal and making him stronger and more powerful.

After a while Hal sacraficed himself to reignite the sun and his body lay in the center of the sun at peace with the universe. But in comics no one ever stays dead and Hal is not an exception to that. He was reborn by the amazing talents of Geoff Johns in the book Green Lanter Rebirth. This is where I started to really get back in to the mythos of Green Lantern. Now anyone that has read any of Johns work knows that the man makes his stories as detailed as possible. And the Green Lanterns have never let me down. With the Rebirth, Sinestro Corps War, Secret Orgin and now Blackest Night we know that Green Lantern will be there for a long time to come.

Now Hal is unique in that he has held the most power rings of any Lantern in history. Yeah he has held many different green rings, but he as also held Yellow rings, blue rings, red rings and the orange ring. No other Lantern has held that many different rings at any time. I have thought for the longest time that Hal would be the rumored white lantern during the blackest night but I don't think its going to be him now, I thinik its actually going to be Sinestro, the greatest of Green Lanterns. But what do I know I am not Geoff Johns, I am just a geek.

I like Hal because he takes no shit from anyone and does what he believes right. He is quite possibly the second greatest Lantern in history. But in my mind and heart I know that Hal is an amazing character and will always be my other favorite.





Now what super power would you have if you could have one? Wow you have no idea how much I honestly hate this question. But being the nice guy that I am I answer it honestly and I say, if I could have any power my power would be similair to that of Peter Petrelli before his father stole his powers. Being an empathic power sponge and being able to control all that power could honestly make him the most powerful person in the world. I am not saying that I have an ego problem or anyting but damn that power was just awesome. I would also use it like Peter did. Yeah it might be a cop out saying that I want Peters power but you know what? Its my answer and I am sticking to it.

So there you have it. My answer to the two most commonly asked questions.

My friends

Just started this and I think the best way for me to begin this blog is by saying a little something about all my friends that are in my life right now and how they make me feel:

Jarrod Clark: 10 years we have known each other and we are pretty much like brothers. We lived together once before and when I lost my housing most recently you opened your home to me and my cat, I cannot think of a better friend than you, well ok I lied there are two others but you know what I mean. Many times you and I have been called the twins because of our bantering and how well we get along with each other. Jarrod, your friendship means so much to me Thank you for everything.

Tyler Brown: You douche I cannot believe you left me to move back to Spokane! How the hell am I supposed to have my geek outs without you near? Tyler you are such a great friend that I know if I ever needed anything you would be there in a heart beat. I am looking forward to seeing you again this Friday its been too long. I know that this apartment will look probably like a disaster like all my other apartments when you and I get through it all. Tyler, thank you for being such a dear friend to me.

Bryan Oliver: What can I say about you to make it sound justified? Not much we do have a very unique friendship and one that will always be a strong one too. Sometimes you get on my nerves but I think that's cause I love you like a brother. Bryan, I know that you and I's friendship will always be strong.

Ian Southworth: Milkman your dedication to friends is truly up there among the highest of all things I have ever encountered. You are one great friend and I think that the movie will be phenomenal. I honestly, in the short time I have known you come to think of you like a brother. Ian, thank you for helping me through a hard part in my life by involving me in your movie.

Bryn Kristi: You came into our lives as just an actress for Ian's movie and you stayed in our hearts. How you can put up with us on an almost daily basis is way beyond me but I give you props for it. Bryn, Thank you for being such a kick ass lady.

Mark Coleman: You and I have not always seen eye to eye because of my say anything attitude but each time our friendship has grown stronger and different over the years. Can you believe we met on gay.com with you trying to rapid fire stump me with comic trivia? Mark, You are a great friend and I am happy to have you in my life.

Sean Miller: I'm 7 days older than you and I think its funny when we start talking about who is older cause you always bring up 'by a week'. I think if it weren't for Mark and the group that our friendship would never have existed can you believe we met during Superman Returns almost 4 years ago? Sean, thank you for bgeing the voice of reason when I am about to do something stupid.

Shane Southworth: What can I say about you in the short time I have known you in person? Not much really but I do know that you are going to become a great friend and someone I will know for many years to come. Shane, thank you for putting up with my innane text messages and genuinly being an awesome guy.

Jason Farris: You my friend are probably one person that can make me laugh hard just by being you. I know very little about you but can see that you are a good man and will always be a good friend. Jason, thank you for letting me steal movies from you and for introducing me to Sacha Sacket.

Jason Wolford: I probably mispelled your name and for that I apologize. We lived together in OC during my 'angry, confused, I am not gay' period of my life and you put up with me ever sense then. Jason thank you for showing me that friends can be subjected to corrections and still take criticisms well.

Chad Reed: I found a common interest in you with Anita Blake and got you hooked on Harry Dresden. I think a friendship with you is great with your innocence. Chad, thank you for being there as a friend if I ever needed anyone to talk to.

Josh Clark: I have known you as long as I have known your brother and Jason W. and all I can say about you is that I love teasing you and being teased back. I do miss hanging out with you almost every weekend when you lived up here but the times I do see you more than makes up for it. Josh, thank you for putting up with my smartassedness and my picking on you.

Bill Prescott: Mr. Radio personality himself. Bill you are a good and funny man. If I had more time and you didn't work graveyard anymore I would hang out with you. Bill, thank you for showing me the kindness that only you can provide.

Bob Chamberlain: What can I say about Bob? He is such a generous man. Bob I think out of the Skagg months you and a few other things were the best to come out of it. Bob, thank you for always bieng there with an ear to lend and long fun stories.

Bryan Goodin: We met years ago at a Pimps and Whose party and started dating almost after that. Bryan, thank you for showing me that love did exist even if it was form a moody Taurus.

Mason Suehs: I have know you for only a short time and I have come to love you dearly in a strictly platonic way. Mason, I always look forward to talking to you and hearing about your day, you are the one reminder that not everyting is horrible.

Casey Dixson: I have known you for a while now and I have to say knowing you has always been one of the most unique experiences. Casey, you are a great man we need to hang out more.

Phil Miering: You are my comic guy. I love going into TFAW and shooting the shit with you. Phil, you make my days happy when I go to the shop and see you there. We will hang out outside of the shop.

Dave Russell: You are one of my two British friends but the only one I feel really close too. You make me laugh and are a very stand up guy. Dave, your ingenious way of doing things and your Beaker costume show that you have a great imagination.

My family: I couldn't survive without knowing that you are there for me in the subtle and different ways that you are. I love each and everyone of you even though sometimes I want to beat your heads in with rocks.

To everyone else: I love you all. If I missed putting you on this list I am sorry it was not my intent. You all are close in my heart. Thank you all for being my friend.
